Here are some notes that you may find useful.

  1. It’s explicit to follow the dates of arrival and departure as of the program
  2. Specify if you are coming with your partner ( we have one double bed)
  3. It’s obligatory to pay $50  for visa, which you can pay on arrival at airport in Kenya.
  4. When you are waiting for your luggage on arrival in Nairobi, we advice you to change 200-300 € for your shopping ( there are 2 counters in the arrival zone of the airport)
  5. If you come with your cell phone you can use it or use a local mobile phone for calling (instead of roaming that is expensive).
  6. Your arrival has to be confirmed at least one month before your coming with the date of arrival and departure.
  7. A small contribution for general living cost is requisted to the voluntarist. 10 euro is the minimum contribution.
  8. If possibile, are useful clothes for childrens of Dala Kiye (from 4 to 15 years).

For Doctors:

  1. Have a photocopy of your medical degree
  2. We need useful medical books in English, French, and Italian (there is a library for consultation (DOC) which need to be enriched and up dated.)
  3. We advice you to bring with you the dustcoat and the theatre shoes which if possible can be left for the hospital. Besides, there are useful analgesic drugs, anti-fungal oral drugs and disposable gloves, which you can bring.
  4. To avoid confusion in the organization of your experience we give some useful information either for you or for us. Generally we need the presence of ANAESTHESIS, INTERNIST, CARDIOLOGIST, RADIOLOGIST, GYNAECOLOGIST, & SURGEON. (The Surgeon has to be able to do gynecological surgery like the: caesarian section, isterectomy and extra uterine pregnancy.) Besides, who ever is able to use Ultra Sound Machine is welcome.
  5. Here is a complete list of drugs and material which are useful and very difficult to find locally (in Italian).
  6. We remind you that most of our patients are HIV positive. The doctors have to know the risks on their job.

We kindly ask you to follow the dates above to avoid complications in the travel from Nairobi to Karungu.
If someone desires to extend the duration of stay, information should be relied in advance.

For the volunteers who are arriving very early in the morning, the previous agreement with us cannot work. So alternatively, you can reach the seminary by taxi from the airport. Therefore, before going out of the arrival zone at the luggage counter, look at the right side there is a taxi desk where you can take your taxi and pay at their office. These taxis are official and safe to travel in. Please show the map to the seminary to the taxi driver for better collaboration. The price is fixed but will be roughly 1,600 kenya shillings.

Thank you very much for your availability; bye bye and see you in Karungu.
