FEEDING PROGRAM

Kopala Primary School had a population of 342 pupils out of which 142 are orphans as at July 2004.
Since the feeding program started in June 2001 there has been a great improvement in the pupils retention rate in the school compared to the previous years when the pupils could drop out due to hunger.

The area surrounding the school has another big blow again this year. There is poor rainfall that is characterized by poor harvest. This kind of climate has persisted for the last five years. Due to this, there has been high drop out of school so that the pupils assist their parents/guardian to look for food which due to this affect their performance in school.

But since the introduction of the feeding program in the school, we have experienced a lot of improvement in the school regarding pupil's retention rate, improved children performance academically and hence general school performance. Kopala Primary school was among one of the best schools which performed well in Karungu Division, this was as a result of six months successful feeding program in the school.

The continuity of the program shall help to improve the quality of life for orphaned children in the school.
